First New Moon of 2015

The first New Moon of the Year:  Supermoon!

January 20th brings the first new moon of the year and it also happens to be one of the six supermoons of 2015.   This year there are 3 super “New” moons and 3 super “Full” moons  the calendar line-up of these yin/yang superpowers spread across the year in excellent proportion and alignment to take advantage of the cosmic energies of our galaxy.

2015 Moon Calendar - supermoon highlights

A Supermoon? Also known as perigee new moons or perigee full moons. Perigee means “near Earth.” Astrologer, Richard Nolle, coined the term supermoon defined as. . . a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth, measuring from the centers of the moon and Earth.

The six supermoons are the new moons of January, February and March, and the full moons of July, August and September.

The full moon on September 28, 2015, will be the closest supermoon of the year. What’s more, this September 28, 2015 full moon will stage a total lunar eclipse, concluding a series of Blood Moon eclipses that started with the total lunar eclipse of April 15, 2014: What is a Blood Moon?

The new moon supermoon on February 18 only lies about 200 kilometers farther away than the September 28 full moon supermoon; making it the second-closest supermoon of 2015 or the closet “new moon” supermoon of the year.

Each month, on the day of the new moon, the Earth, moon and sun are aligned, with the moon in between. This line-up creates wide-ranging tides, known as spring tides. High spring tides climb up especially high, and on the same day low tides plunge especially low (the yin/yang of energy waves).

The January 20 extra-close new moon will accentuate the spring tide, giving rise to what’s called a perigean spring tide. If you live along an ocean coastline, watch for high tides caused by the January, February and March 2015 new supermoons.

The January 20 moon is new at 13:14 UTC. Lunar perigee – the moon’s nearest point to Earth for the month – happens about 1 day and 7 hours after new moon, on January 21, at 20:06 UTC.  This is the day to use the harmonized cosmic energies of three vibrational forces to intensify our focus; “to see what you wish to be true.”

Which brings us to the esoteric awareness of the First New Moon of the Year:

Without being aware of the lunar influence one falls too easily under its hypnotic influence and likely to perceive the wrong dynamics behind a situation, take things too personally, succumb to depression or misplaced outrage, and fail to place one’s energies at the right place at the right time.

Just before and after a new or full moon, powerful cosmic forces produce intensified energies that can distract or enhance us and much like a wave in the ocean, we can either ride it or get flooded over by it. Granted, some people are fine with just observing enough to know when to brace themselves for the flood-over, while others prepare to jump and ride on top of the wave. Brace or ride, the advantage is in awareness of our cosmic relationships.

When the cosmic alignment of sun, moon, planet takes place close to Earth, the enhanced bioelectric vibrations are easier to align with our own biochemistry and what happens is like the charging of a rundown battery plugged into an electromagnetic charging station; only the station is a field and the charge is in the atmosphere. Every human being gets this mandatory charge twice a month; one negative charge (new moon energy) one positive (full moon energy) charge. This cosmic charge is as relevant to life as breathing is and it is also an involuntary condition of life just like breathing and under these mandatory conditions we have to make no effort for the condition to keep us alive.

However, just like breathing, we can choose going through an entire life span taking only the basic shallow breaths that come with the package, or deepening our experience of life by taking deeper, controlled breathes; so too can we deepen our experience of charging our energies with the alignment of 3 harmonized vibrational forces by purposefully directing the current of the charge towards or away from us based in its cycle.

A new moon opens the cycle of expansion for 14 days; the vibration of the alignment are pushing outward, so this is a good time for personal expansion as well as bringing things toward you. It is also a good time for starting new projects and manifesting intentions.

A full moon opens the cycle of contraction for 14 days; the vibration of the alignment pulling upward, so it is a good time for personal retreat, as well as letting go of things and habits.  It is also a good time to clear out clutter, give things away and organize your daily structure.

As with duality of all things, the counter aspects of new and full moon energies are that the new moon energies build on implosion (yin) and tends to induce oversensitivity, dissatisfaction, and depression; whereas the full moon is characterized by energy of explosion (yang) and tends to amplify overreaction, violence, and outright lunacy.

The moon rules over the imagination, and during both full moon and new moon windows the unharnessed imagination is particularly prone to being misapplied conjuring misunderstandings, false suspicions, and an unfounded increase in worries. But whereas the “new” moon exacerbates introspective turmoil, the “full” moon externalizes the trouble and draws it out.

This basic awareness is an aid in itself and evidence for the stanch observer by building her capacity of foresight. Once in a rhythm of regular observation, knowing what phase the moon is in; one starts becoming aware of a problem before it happens, predicting and executing suitable outcomes, and staying on top of their game becomes second nature, giving power over the invisible and subliminal influences of nature. With this kind of awareness one can produce more efficiently, have a smoother and more exciting path of progress through life, avoid unproductive obstacles, and gain an unlimited measure of liberation to reach ones highest potential.
